Re: The Last Jedi Minute 28 re Leia's tracking device

Yeah the difference between types of tracking seemed clear cut to me while watching, although I still think there was a weird amount of focus on the "cloaked binary beacon," almost like it was inserted in reshoots to solve a "plot hole." Sort of relevant to the discussion of trac...

PeteTheRetailer , we just registered a car in NYC about two weeks ago, and our plate number starts with KHD. Also, I am definitely a millenial who listened to "We Didn't Start the Fire" for years before understanding that it was chronological. But I also had several of middle/high school ...

The Last Jedi Minute 10

I have so much respect for Josh Flanagan being able to articulate why this movie doesn't work for him as a Star Wars film , as I often struggle to explain why I'm in the opposite camp. I'm much younger, and didn't grow up with Luke as my ideal hero; I'm sure there are fictional characters from my yo...

Now I'll have to stitch all the openings together into a GIF. Should I do them all at once (in a grid), or one at a time (release order)?
A grid! I love grids.

Re: The Last Jedi Minute 2

That's fascinating! I like both of those ideas: Luke's severed hand and Finn's bubble. Seems like both would have been very emblematic of the movie to follow, and were scrapped in favor of a more generic blockbuster opening that fits the SW format.

The Last Jedi Minute 2

Although I love The Last Jedi, I think it has my least favorite opening shot of the series. For a film that has so much great cinematography, the opening feels perfunctory and lacking in any interesting symbolism or design. Just as an exercise, here's my opening shot ranking (not including Solo A St...

Re: The Last Jedi Minute 1

Hooray for the Return of the Star Wars Minute! Video is an excellent addition to the franchise. The political makeup of the galaxy at the beginning of The Last Jedi is confusing, but that's mostly because the size/influence of the NR and FO are never clear throughout the sequels. I was hoping that T...

Re: Hockey!

Both of my teams with a respectable shutout to start the season, so I'm quite pleased. Hockey is back! But I still don't know what a "taxi squad" is.

Re: The new Disney stuff

I'm one of the young'uns who loves Ahsoka as a character and really enjoyed 2/3 of clone wars and almost all of rebels, but I just can't get excited about the Ahsoka show. Her episode of Mando was pretty lackluster and formulaic, and the obsession with Thrawn is a really boring jumping-off point.

Dominion

Alex mentioned on the last SWMWE that he enjoys the card game Dominion, one of my favorite games of all time. It's a modular deck-building game based around a quasi-medieval theme. The online version has been giving me life during the quarantine, and I've hooked much of my family and friends on it. ...
