Dark Empire

Post by CrimsonSam »

My podcast is in the middle of covering the Dark Empire storyline from the early 90s right now, so it's been on my mind a lot lately. I'm curious to know how Star Wars fans view it in 2021, particularly after the release of The Rise of Skywalker, since it borrowed so much from that plotline. Has Episode IX made you appreciate the comic more than you used to? Less? Or did Dark Empire influence your feelings about Rise of Skywalker when you saw it for the first time? Personally, I love Dark Empire and will never stop drooling over the art, and I... didn't love Rise of Skywalker. But I'm curious to hear from others!

I'm very curious to go back and read it. It's easily been a good 20+ years since I last did, and I picked it up from Comixology a few weeks ago during a crazy SW sale where it was going for something ridiculous like $2.

I was definitely a big fan when it first came out, but I remember being much more nonplussed when I read it again several years later; kinda similar to how meh RoS left me, so we'll see...

Yeah, I'm definitely curious to hear how it held up for you this most recent time. There's certainly elements of it that I wish Rise of Skywalker had taken more influence from and others that I wish it had taken less from. I do like a lot of the questions that it raises about the relationship between the light and dark sides of the force, but the rift that develops between Han and Luke is actually probably the biggest element of it that always has me coming back for a reread every few years. I love what a bold move it is to have them so at odds throughout most of the second half of the story.
